| April 22nd is Earth Day and organizations and communities around the region are celebrating. Make sure you check out our events listing for lectures, fairs, cleanups and other ways to get involved. Earth Day is also Primary Day in Pennsylvania. One of the best ways to show you care about the earth is to vote for legislators who are committed to protecting, restoring and conserving our resources. Make sure your voice is heard! | | | CITY COUNCIL HEARINGS | | Philadelphia's City Council is considering several pieces of legislation related to Next Great City policy recommendations. The Committee on the Environment will hold hearings on two upcoming dates. Hearing on April 30th at 2pm: - An ordinance that would require that any construction, extension or major renovation of certain buildings paid for with public funds meet LEED green building standards
- A resolution to hold hearings to explore what steps the City and its departments are taking to investiate the creation of a Public Bike Use program in Philadelphia
Hearing on May 5th at 10am: - A resolution to hold public hearings to examine the Philadelphia International Airport's recycling policies and goals
- A resolution to hold public hearings on the possibility of creating a Green Jobs Corp to train workers in green jobs
Come to Council Chambers to watch the hearings, or sign up to testify by calling Councilman Jim Kenney's office at 215-686-3450. | | | Al GORE IN PHILADELPHIA | | There are still tickets available for PennFuture's 10th Anniversary Gala with Guest of Honor Al Gore. The event takes place on May 3rd at 5:30pm and will be attended by dignataries such as Governor Rendell, Teresa Heinz, Mayor Nutter and many more. | |
