| What a difference a year makes! Next Great City made quite a splash in 2007 and we want to thank you for your support of this initiative! Some highlights of 2007 include: - Releasing the Next Great City: Philadelphia report in January at the Atwater Kent Museum to a packed house of media, decision makers and allies. - Growing our diverse coalition to almost 100 organizations. - Having all Mayoral candidates in both the primary and general election attend our Mayoral forums and express support for the Next Great City agenda. - Winning victories on Next Great City issues such as seeing the City sign a contract with PECOWind to purchase clean, renewable energy and the formation of a Zoning Code Commission. We look forward to implementing all of the Next Great City recommendations with your support in 2008! | | | TRANSIT ORIENTED DEVELOPMENT | | Philadelphia’s transit system is a major untapped asset. If we build upon existing transit hubs within the city and the region, we can make transit a viable redevelopment strategy. Read more about the planning and policy work being conducted to unlock the systemic barriers in the executive summary of NeighborhoodsNow’s report, “Transit-oriented development in Philadelphia: Using a Proven Strategy to Create More Vibrant Livable Neighborhoods,” and check out this website at: www.neighborhoodsnowphila.org | | | RECYCLE THOSE TREES! | | A great way to make sure you get on Santa's "Nice" list for next year is to recycle this year's Christmas tree! In Philadelphia, you can make sure your tree doesn't go to a landfill by dropping it off at a sanitation yard between January 7 and January 12.
