On Friday, March 21, Tuesday, April 22, Thursday, May 15, and Thursday, May 22, Audubon Pennsylvania will be conducting a tour of the East Park Reservoir. The reservoir, which is located near the intersection of 33rd and Oxford streets in the heart of Philadelphia's Strawberry Mansion section, is the site of the future Fairmount Park Audubon Center.
These tours are scheduled for 10:00 am and last approximately an hour. Please confirm your plans to attend by emailing me at: rwallis@audubon.org
If you will be unable to join us and are interested in visiting at another time, let me know.
Travel directions:
Driving toward Center City:
Get on Kelly Drive (old East River Drive). After you go under Twin Bridges (RT 1 North and Roosevelt Blvd) you will pass Temple Rowing Bldg. Continue on and go under RR bridge at sharp curve to left. .5 mile after the RR Bridge you will see Grant's Statue on the left - turn north under the train bridge, and go up hill to first road on right. Turn right toward Smith Playground. Continue straight without turning into Smith Playground. Further along you will see a dirt parking lot on the left with Reservoir gates at the end of it. Park in this lot and we will meet you there.
Driving from Center City:
From the Benjamin Franklin Parkway get on Kelly Drive. After passing the Philadelphia Museum of Art on the left, turn right off Kelly Drive just before the beginning of Boathouse Row. Continue up hill going right at the fork. Cross Girard Avenue and about a half mile further you will see a golf driving range on the left. Turn left into Fairmount Park at 33rd and Oxford. Turn right into the parking lot across from the Driving Range and Frisbe Golf course.
Keith Russell, Audubon Outreach Coordinator for Fairmount Park, and Tim Schaeffer, Executive Director of Audubon Pennsylvania, will lead these tours.
